Archaeological Testing at the Holy Family Church
Cahokia, Illinois

Robert Mazrim and Valary Carraro

This journal serves as the technical report for the 2014 research-based archaeological investigations at the Holy Family Church in Cahokia, Illinois. The project was conducted jointly by the Sangamo Archaeological Center and the Illinois State Archaeological Survey, under the direction of Robert Mazrim and Dr. Duane Esarey. The excavations encountered well-preserved and heavily stratified soils, which could be delineated into four cultural layers extending into the first quarter of the eighteenth century. Each of the units also encountered cultural features, dating as early as the first decades of the eighteenth century and as late as the early-nineteenth century.
